Chief Justice Yahya Afridi meets Turkish, Iranian ambassadors, stresses judicial cooperation

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi held separate meetings with the ambassadors of Türkiye and Iran at the Supreme Court Building in Islamabad on Monday.

According to a press release from the Supreme Court’s public relations office, Turkish Ambassador Dr. Mehmet Paçacı and Iranian Ambassador Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam met with the Chief Justice to discuss bilateral judicial ties and cooperation.

Justice Afridi welcomed both dignitaries and appreciated the deep-rooted, brotherly relations that Pakistan shares with Türkiye and Iran, highlighting the countries’ shared cultural heritage and mutual respect.

During his meeting with the Turkish ambassador, the Chief Justice acknowledged the strong judicial ties between the two nations. He praised the ongoing collaboration through judicial exchange programs between Türkiye and the Shariah Academy, emphasizing the importance of learning from Türkiye’s experience in judicial administration, digital systems, and AI technology.

Justice Afridi underscored the need to expand such initiatives to the district judiciary level, allowing judicial officers to benefit from modern practices adopted by Türkiye. Ambassador Paçacı conveyed greetings from the President of Türkiye’s Constitutional Court and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing judicial cooperation with Pakistan.

In his meeting with the Iranian ambassador, both sides reiterated the importance of strengthening legal and judicial ties. Ambassador Amiri Moghadam congratulated Chief Justice Afridi on his appointment and extended an official invitation to visit Iran. He also shared that the Chief Justice of Iran plans to visit Pakistan in the near future.

Justice Afridi welcomed both prospective visits and emphasized that such high-level exchanges are valuable opportunities for learning and strengthening institutional links. He also highlighted the importance of extending judicial cooperation to include district-level courts.

As a gesture of goodwill, the Chief Justice presented souvenirs to both ambassadors after the meetings.
