The army chief was concerned about the lack of trials for those involved in the events of May 9, Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister’s adviser on political affairs, said on Friday.

“If trials had occurred, the incident on November 26 might not have happened,” he said in an interview with Geo News.

Thousands of PTI supporters marched on November 24 from different cities to Islamabad for Khan’s “final call” to “ensure the release of party members and restoration of democracy.” But the protest was called off on the third day, November 26.

They managed to reach the federal capital despite roadblocks and disruptions to the internet and cellular services.

At least six people, including three Rangers personnel, were killed during the protest, according to the government.

But the former ruling party has claimed that 12 of their followers were killed in firing on the last day of the protest. PTI’s information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram shared details in a press conference on November 29.

Sanaullah added that the army chief’s grievances were directed more towards the Supreme Court and judges, who continued to write letters “without advancing” the cases.

On the PTI, the premier’s adviser said that if the party initiates a civil disobedience movement, it “will fail miserably.” After November 26, he claimed that Khan’s party has suffered irreparable damage and warned that any new movement would be doomed to failure.

The PTI negotiation team is a “non-starter,” he said and questioned how dialogue can take place after a conditional offer for negotiations. According to him, the solution to any political dispute lies in political dialogue.

When asked about Independent Senator Faisal Vawda’s involvement in any new setup, he said that “some individuals in the system are favoured (ladlay), but they cannot step outside of it; they do not represent the system.”

Sanaullah added: “We have forgotten him after making him a senator, so he has to remind us of his presence. I would advise the prime minister to give Vawda a role in the government as well.”
