Jailed ex-PM Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi’s arrest on the cards, claims Vawda

Independent Senator fears PTI founder might see sent to gallows like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
Exclusive interview of Faisal Vawda - Rubaroo - Complete episode - Aaj News

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi’s arrest is on the cards, Independent Senator Faisal Vawda has claimed as the government investigates Islamabad march where at least six people, including three Rangers personnel, were killed.

“There should not be any doubt that Bushra Bibi’s arrest is on the cards,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo which was aired on Aaj News on Thursday.

He was speaking in response to a question related to investigations into the PTI’s November 26 protest.

Thousands of PTI supporters marched on November 24 from different cities to Islamabad for Khan’s “final call” to “ensure the release of party members and restoration of democracy.” But the protest was called off on the third day.

They managed to reach the federal capital despite roadblocks and disruptions to the internet and cellular services.

According to the former ruling party, 12 of their followers were killed in firing on the last day of the protest. PTI’s information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram shared details in a press conference on November 29.

Vawda claimed that the former first lady was not coming out and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been made into a no-go area. But he added that the place where she is living could be raided if needed.

Many PTI supporters were wary of their leaders when top-tier leadership, including KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Khan’s wife, went the operation was launched on the third day of the PTI march. According to the party leaders, Gandapur was one of the last persons to go from the Blue area.

They claimed that the vehicle carrying the KP chief minister and the former first lady was targeted while en route to the province.

“I have spoken to her. She will speak and will speak to the public, but after speaking to Imran Khan,” Bibi’s sister Maryam Riaz Wattoo told on Spotlight with Munizae Jahangir on Monday.

But Vawda believes Gandapur and other leaders leaving Islamabad was part of a plan to avoid arrests.

“A murder FIR has been registered. How you can avoid it. The camera and CCTV footage have everything. They were thinking they would lead Khan to the gallows and go free,” he said.

To substantiate his claims, the independent senator stated that in Pakistan, a person was hanged while being in power and another person came to power from jail.

“Don’t forget Tara Masih [the person who hanged Zulfikar Ali Bhutto]. Imran Khan is behind bars and others are making money.”

When asked if the country was repeating the same mistake again, he said: “The court accepted its mistake after 45 years. We cannot bring him [Bhutto] back. I am not going in the PTI and I don’t want to go in it.”

Vawda revealed that he would be going to five countries to present how PTI, Gandapur and Bibi were allegedly risking Khan’s life.

While speaking about the Formation Commanders Conference press release, he said there are four “punch lines”. Firstly, he said Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir clarified that the army was with Pakistan and its people, not with any political party. “So everyone should have this clarity especially those who say we are on one page.”

Secondly, the army chief mentioned that the military brass urged Afghanistan to ensure its soil was not used for terrorism. He claimed that some politicians in KP were giving a “different perception.”

Moreover, they ended the nationalist narrative led by Bibi. “The nationality narrative is dangerous for Pakistan,” he said and blamed the government for starting the “jaag Punjabi” narrative to counter her.

Fourth, he added that was related to the propaganda.

He reiterated that the government was “incompetent” for registering FIRs against so many people after the PTI protest in contrast to the number the ministers said.

“I want to give a message to the interior ministry that when you can cancel Nawaz Sharif’s passport and ID in Imran Khan’s tenure then the same should be done with all these absconders like Qasim Suri.”

He warned that “two lives would be in danger” if PTI leader Murad Saeed was arrested.

When asked about the recent meetings of politicians with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Vawda said that he liked an “injection” that increased everyone’s “blood pressure” and political activity.

“My success rate is 9/10. My work is to have political stability, end division, save Khan’s life, and bring all differences on one platform.”

In response to a question on meetings, he claimed that JUI-F Chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s mandate was stolen in the February 8 elections.

“I don’t see Gandapur being arrested,” he said and added that the problem was polarization in the country.

“Pakistan’s broader picture is on two divorces: one Khan has to give to Bushra Bibi and the second will be for the PML-N. When this happens for Pakistan’s greater interest, we will go forward.”
