In a tragic incident at Capital Hospital in Shastri Nagar, Meerut, India, a malfunctioning lift fell, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and injuries to three others on Thursday evening.

The woman, who had recently given birth, was being transported to the ground floor with her attendants when the accident occurred around 6pm.

Reports indicated that the lift’s belt broke just before reaching the ground floor, causing it to plunge. The woman suffered fatal injuries when her neck became trapped in the lift.

The injured individuals, including her attendants, were promptly taken to another hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, hospital staff and the deceased’s family vandalized hospital property and protested against the administration. Police arrived at the scene to restore order. A senior officer confirmed that an investigation is underway, with CCTV footage being reviewed. Preliminary findings point to a potential lift malfunction, and the hospital has since relocated all patients.
