Heavy rainfall and snowfall cause temperature drop in Northern Regions, Balochistan
Heavy rainfall and snowfall in Pakistan’s northern regions and Balochistan have led to a further drop in temperatures.
The mountains of Swat, Kalam Valley, Kaghan Valley, and Balakot are now blanketed in a thick layer of snow.
In Balochistan, the weather has turned increasingly cold due to the ongoing precipitation. Quetta is experiencing chilly winds, while Karachi has noted a rise in coolness during the night and morning hours.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected today in northeastern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. However, most of the country will remain dry and cold.
In response to the harsh winter conditions, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has developed a comprehensive plan to manage the impacts of the weather.
Director General PDMA Balochistan, Jahanzaib Khan Ghorezai, announced that preparations have been finalized in anticipation of the winter season. He stated that a collaborative plan has been established with various departments to address challenges posed by snow and rain.
A relief camp has been established on the national highway in the Kan Mehtarzai area of Qila Saifullah, where snow-clearing machinery has been deployed, and personnel have been assigned to assist with relief efforts.
The PDMA is in constant contact with the PMD and will promptly send snow-clearing machinery to Lakpass, Kolpur, Shelabagh Cantonment, and Ziarat as soon as snowfall updates are received.
