Former PM Abbasi has a ‘solution’ to PML-N’s problem with PTI-ruled KP

Bewildered by government’s decision to rely on Islamabad High Court orders

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has come up with a solution to the PML-N government’s persistent problem with the PTI-ruled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

“The authorities should transfer Imran Khan to a jail in Peshawar, Haripur, or any other facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo which was aired on Aaj News on Sunday. “If he needs to be imprisoned, they should move him there.”

He was speaking about the federal government’s concerns over the KP government’s participation in the anti-government protests and alleged use of provincial resources.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been the main face of PTI protests in the recent past. He has been sharing Khan’s message with the supporters in rallies.

Despite being imprisoned, Khan has been calling the shots in party matters. His nod was also important when the government tabled the 26th Constitutional Amendment bill in Parliament.

When questioned about the legal complexities involved in transferring the former prime minister to another jail, Abbasi responded that a “simple case” could be registered at the new location to facilitate the move.

He made the comment in a lighter mode as the PTI founder’s legal battles continue.

In response to another query, he emphasised the president’s role. “The president is a third part of Parliament and should step forward to play a role in the dialogue.”

While speaking about the PTI protest, he stated that he had never seen such a situation in Islamabad before. “Containers are set up even in the streets. If the government wants to protect D-Chowk, why have they closed all of Islamabad’s roads?” he questioned.

Abbasi expressed disbelief at the government’s justification for simultaneously shutting down all motorways for “maintenance work.” He added: “They think the people of this country are fools. I am astonished by this government’s thinking. This reflects the government’s failure.”

He asked, “Has the high court directed them to shut down phones, block containers, and cut off roads? It’s strange that they are relying on the high court for this.”
