Police have claimed to have arrested several suspects including a female facilitator, who authorities say has a history of aiding in terrorist activities, in the Karachi airport attack case.

The suspects are linked to Balochistan and some bank staff members were also found to be involved in facilitating the terrorism near the airport signal. Investigators claimed that the “connections to the terrorism extend internationally.”

Last month, a powerful explosion “targeting foreign nationals” just outside the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi left two Chinese dead and 17 wounded on Sunday evening.

The explosion occurred on a road leading out of the airport, specifically at a location where security personnel’s vehicles are typically parked for incoming flights. The area is usually occupied by vehicles assigned to VIP security. Eight cars were damaged in the incident.

Police reported that a team allegedly conducting reconnaissance inside the airport has also been caught, including a facilitator who recorded a video prior to the attack. The suspect is said to be a Karachi University student.

They claimed that the bank staff transferred funds to Karachi to purchase the vehicle used in the attack. A total of Rs7.1 million was transferred from Turbat to a Karachi bank, with the bank staff allegedly taking a bribe of Rs200,000 to facilitate the transfer.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle used in the attack was a “double-cabin Vigo registered under the name Shah Fahd.” The vehicle’s registration number was “KW-0375 and it was utilised” in the bombing. Although it was a “2012 model, it was registered in August 2017, and all taxes had been paid up until December 31, 2024.”

The attacker allegedly approached the airport road from the Model Colony side. As the foreign national vehicle moved forward, the assailant struck from the right side onto the road leading from the airport to Shahrah-e-Faisal. The explosive materials allegedly were installed in the front of the vehicle, targeting the Chinese engineers specifically.

The banned terrorist organisation BLA had claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.
