PTI’s Sania Nishtar resigns from Senate seat
Senator Sania Nishtar of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially resigned from her position in the upper house of Parliament. The resignation was submitted to the Senate Secretariat and is effective immediately.
Nishtar, who previously served as a special assistant to the Prime Minister during the PTI government, is leaving to take up a role with an international organization based in Geneva.
Elected as a senator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections, Nishtar is a qualified physician and was appointed CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in 2024.
Her prior roles include serving as the Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety with the status of federal minister, as well as chairing the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Ehsaas Programme.
In addition to her recent positions, Nishtar also held a seat in the interim federal cabinet in 2013, where she oversaw public health, education, and science initiatives.
