China snubs Germany as no one receives Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock at airport
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was shocked when she landed in China as no one came to receive her at the airport on Monday, prompting her to leave with her delegation.
A clip of her arrival and expression went viral on social media. So far there have been no official statements on the development from either side.
Baerbock was met at the Chinese airport only by security guards, but there were no Chinese politicians, according to media reports.
The development comes a year after Baerbock referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “dictator” in an interview with US cable network Fox News on September 14.
She was asked about Russia’s war against Ukraine during the interview.
But the statement outraged China. China had summoned Germany’s ambassador Patricia Flor to face reprimand over Baerbock’s comments.
