Rauf Ata of Asma Jahangir Group wins SCBA top slot
Rauf Ata of Asma Jahangir Group won the Supreme Court Bar Association top slot after securing 558 votes against Hamid Khan Group’s Muneer A Kakak who got 484 votes.
Ata expressed his gratitude after winning the election. “I thank everyone for placing their trust in me. We will ensure that the dignity of the black coat is upheld. Our group has always worked for the supremacy of the Constitution and the law, and we will continue to do so even after this victory,” he told reporters.
A total of 17 candidates competed for five positions in the annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association. A large number of lawyers were present at the venue.
He noted that the highest number of registered voters from Lahore exercised their voting rights, with a total of 1,058 votes cast. During the vote-counting process, there was also some heated exchange among the lawyers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Rauf Ata, the newly elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and Ahsan Bhoon, the head of the Independent Group (Asma Jahangir Group).
Following the completion of the vote counting process at the Islamabad registry after the Supreme Court Bar Association elections, the official results revealed that Rauf Ata of the Asma Jahangir Group secured 348 votes while the presidential candidate from the Hamid Khan Group, Muneer Kakak, received 326 votes.
The prime minister stated that the newly elected president and all bar officials would continue their mission for the welfare of lawyers. He added that the legal community “will play a positive role in upholding the implementation of constitutional amendments.”
All members of the legal community deserve congratulations for choosing Raouf Ata as “an excellent leader,” PM Shehbaz said and added that the newly elected officials are expected to effectively address the issues faced by the legal community and play a significant role in important legal matters.
