Oxford University drops Imran Khan from candidates for chancellor election
Oxford University has released a list of 38 candidates for the position of Chancellor, excluding the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan.
The elections for the Chancellor will take place on October 28.
A recent corruption conviction has further complicated Imran Khan’s candidacy, potentially disqualifying him from holding the chancellor’s office.
Previously, the British newspaper The Times reported that the inclusion of Imran Khan’s nomination had created challenges for Oxford University in the Chancellor election.
The report noted that the competition was so intense that legal opinions were sought to determine whether the PTI founder met the necessary criteria, given the significant concerns regarding elections in Pakistan.
“Southey, a distinguished legal figure called to the bar in 1996 and awarded Silk in 2010, has a wealth of experience in high-profile cases, including those brought before the UK Supreme Court. His involvement underscores the importance of adhering to legal standards in this election.”
