As the high-profile Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit gets underway in Islamabad with multiple heads of government and dozens of foreign delegations in attendance, the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are expected to see several road blockages.

Both Islamabad and Rawalpindi Traffic police have announced road closures and diversion plans for the summit.

The road closures will be in effect from October 14 to 16.

Islamabad

• Peshawar to Rawat: Use GT Road, Taxila, Motorway, Chak Beli Road, and Rawat.
• Lahore (GT Road) to Peshawar: Use Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chak Beli Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila.
• Margalla Road to Rawalpindi: Use 9th Avenue.
• Faisal Avenue to Zero Point: Traffic will be diverted towards 9th Avenue.
• Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi: Use Korang Road and Lehtrar Road via Bani Gala.
• Rawalpindi to Islamabad: Use 9th Avenue from Murree Road (Sadar).
• Faisal Avenue (Zero Point) to Coral Chowk: The expressway will be closed in both directions.
• Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road to Faizabad: Use 9th Avenue signal and Stadium Road.
• Heavy Traffic (Peshawar to Lahore): Use Taxila, Motorway, Tarnol Phatak, Fateh Jang Road Interchange, and Motorway.
• Heavy Traffic (Lahore GT Road to Islamabad/Rawalpindi): Use Chak Beli Road, Chak Beli Interchange, and Motorway.

Rawalpindi

• No traffic will be allowed from Chohan Chowk towards Airport Road during the movement.
• Traffic going towards Coral Chowk will be diverted from Chohan Chowk via Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, and towards Murree Road.
• Traffic from Jhanda Turn towards Amar Chowk will be diverted from Amar Chowk towards Scheme 3 or Kachehri Chowk.
• Traffic from Amar Chowk towards Chohan Chowk will be diverted from Agha Za Flyover, Rahim Abad towards Rahim Abad.
• Traffic from Annexe Chowk towards Amar Chowk will be diverted via Jhanda Road (Jhanda Turn) and Rashid Minhas Road.
• Traffic from Mushtaq Beg Shaheed Road towards Airport Road will be diverted from Annexe Chowk towards Kachehri Chowk.
• Traffic from Kachehri Chowk towards Airport Road will be diverted towards Rashid Minhas Road and Mureer Chowk.
• Traffic from Mall Road towards Kachehri Chowk will be diverted from Shalimar Chowk via Sarwar Road, Punjab Street, and towards Rashid Minhas Road.
• Heavy traffic will not be allowed to exit the motorway during this time.
