A teacher named Malti Verma suffered a fatal heart attack after receiving an extortion call in India. The call, made on September 30, was from a man impersonating a police officer who claimed Verma’s daughter had been arrested in a sex trafficking case.

The caller demanded ₹1 lakh to prevent the release of explicit videos involving her daughter.

Verma, panicked by the news, immediately contacted her son, Divyanshu, urging him to transfer the money to protect his sister.

Divyanshu became suspicious and discovered that the call originated from Pakistan, confirming it to be a scam.

Despite his reassurances, Verma’s health deteriorated after returning home, and she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing people rush to help her after the incident. Verma’s husband stated that the distress from the scam call was the primary cause of her sudden health crisis.

Local authorities are currently investigating the source of the call and have expressed concerns about the rising incidence of such scams, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and preventive measures.
