Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon result in nearly 700 deaths this week
Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have claimed nearly 700 lives this week, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, as Israel intensifies its military campaign against Hezbollah.
The bombardment, which has included strikes targeting senior Hezbollah figures, has led to significant civilian casualties, including a recent attack that killed 20 people, predominantly Syrian migrants.
On Thursday, Israeli forces conducted multiple strikes, resulting in further deaths and injuries, including two fatalities in a southern Beirut apartment complex.
The total death toll in Lebanon since the escalation of conflict has now reached 696, with more than 1,540 casualties reported since the outbreak of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel last October.
In response to the violence, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib called for an immediate cease-fire, warning of the broader implications for regional stability.
International leaders, including those from the U.S. and France, are advocating for a 21-day cease-fire to facilitate negotiations amid fears of an all-out war.
