Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed his desire for a consensus-based approach to constitutional amendments, criticizing the government’s approach as being driven by self-interest rather than necessity.

In a meeting with senior journalists in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had simply requested their support, the JUI-F believes any extension should be based on genuine need, not political expediency. He reiterated the party’s support for the establishment of an electoral reforms commission.

He also stated that he is in favour of constitutional court.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the government’s handling of the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that these provinces are under the control of armed groups.

He alleged that nationalist and religious parties were unfairly removed from power in these provinces through manipulation. He further highlighted the erosion of state authority in these regions.

The JUI-F leader also criticized the double standards applied to internal conflicts, noting that while nationalist separatist movements are treated as internal matters, religiously motivated conflicts are often framed as international issues.

He called for an end to this double standard and urged that constitutional amendments be made in the broader national interest, transcending partisan interests.
