Hezbollah has claimed that it fired dozens of rockets at Israel’s Ramat David Airbase, located east of Haifa, as retaliation for a series of Israeli strikes, Al Jazeera reported.

This escalation has prompted a UN official to warn of an “imminent catastrophe” if the ongoing cycle of violence continues.

Sirens were activated across northern Israel early Sunday morning in response to the attack. If confirmed, this would mark Hezbollah’s most extensive strike inside Israel since the onset of cross-border clashes in October of last year.

The Israeli military indicated that over 100 projectiles were launched from Lebanon, leading to mass evacuations and school closures in northern Israel.

The Home Front Command announced that educational activities would be suspended across the region until at least Monday, affecting “hundreds of thousands of children,” according to military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani.

The Israeli military has imposed restrictions on large gatherings in northern Israel, including Haifa, the country’s third-largest city. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or significant damage from rocket attacks in Israel on Sunday.
