Punjab jails to install cameras in every barrack
In a significant move to enhance the monitoring system in Punjab’s jails, authorities have decided to install cameras in all prison barracks.
According to IG Jail Affairs Mian Farooq Nazir, nearly 4,500 cameras will be installed in the barracks of jails across Punjab, including Lahore.
The installation will occur in three phases, starting with central and high-security jails, where each barrack will be equipped with one camera for monitoring.
This initiative aims to improve the supervision of inmates and the overall jail environment.
Farooq Nazir stated that this initiative will facilitate better monitoring of barracks, allowing for improved oversight of inmate movements, timely transfers to hospitals in case of illness, and control over complaints regarding theft of items within the barracks.
Nazir further mentioned that a summary for the camera installation has been sent to the government. Following its approval, the tendering process will commence, and implementation will begin shortly.
