Former Aaj News anchor Abdullah Hassan passed away in a car accident in Karachi on Sunday. The incident occurred near Avari Tower on Shahrah-e-Faisal, the police said.

Rescue officials stated that the body was transferred to the hospital following the traffic accident. Police have confirmed that further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Deputy Inspector General of Police South Syed Asad Raza stated that Hassan, 40, was driving when he collided with a footpath near a traffic signal. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Senior Superintendent of Police South Sajid Sadozai indicated that speeding was a likely cause of the accident, noting significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon extended his condolences to Hassan’s family. In a statement, he highlighted the anchor’s contributions to journalism and visited the grieving family.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori also expressed his sorrow over Hassan’s passing, offering prayers for the deceased and strength for his family.

Pakistan People Party Central Spokesperson Shazia Marri shared her condolences, expressing solidarity with the family during this difficult time.

This incident follows the death of another journalist in July, who was killed when a fuel tank detached from a tanker and overturned on the Baloch Colony flyover in Karachi.

A father and her daughter were killed last month when a speeding SUV rammed into their motorcycle on a service lane along Karachi’s Karsaz Road.

The prime suspect of the accident, Natasha Danish, got bail earlier this week after the counsel to the victims’ family said that they had pardoned them and removed their objections.
