Balochistan National Party leader Akhtar Mengal announced his resignation from the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Speaking outside the Parliament House on Tuesday, Mengal said he was resigning as he had been unable to do anything for his constituency.

He added that he was announcing the decision for the first time during the press conference and had not told anyone beforehand.

The BNP leader expressed his disillusionment with Pakistani politics, stating that it’s better to run a pakora stall than be involved in it. He also criticized the lack of understanding of the Balochistan issue and the lack of trust in any institution.

Mengal highlighted the immense suffering in Balochistan, with countless lives lost due to the ongoing conflict. He emphasized the need for a collective effort to address the issue, calling for a dedicated meeting to discuss the problem. He lamented that whenever discussions on Balochistan begin, they are abruptly silenced.

He pleaded for his views to be heard with patience, even if they are disagreed with, and declared his willingness to accept any consequences for his words, even death. He urged for his voice to be heard, as he feels ignored and isolated.

Mengal further lamented the lack of interest in the Balochistan issue, even among his own party members. He pointed out the irony of the parliament acknowledging the loss of Balochistan while failing to address the issue effectively.

He also criticized the hypocrisy of politicians who seek out his support when they need votes but then disregard his concerns. He pointed to the appointment of Mahmoud Khan Achakzai as the Chairman of the Committee for the Protection of the Constitution, questioning its purpose and effectiveness.

Mengal was elected to the National Assembly from NA-256 Khuzdar in the general elections.
