The government is set to initiate a crackdown on buses and wagons operating without permits on Peshawar roads, particularly along the BRT route, to alleviate traffic congestion.

This decision was made during a meeting at the Commissioner’s House, as stated in a press release.

The meeting was convened following directives from the chief minister to address traffic issues in the provincial capital. It was agreed to immediately halt operations of buses and wagons without permits along the BRT route and to arrest their owners.

The Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority was assigned to provide recommendations for addressing traffic congestion along the BRT route.

Participants also agreed to target public transport vehicles with substandard gas cylinders, as they pose safety risks.

Another meeting is planned for next week to discuss the status of rickshaws operating without permits. The transport department was instructed to issue route permits for rickshaws in Peshawar.

Additionally, the deputy commissioner and chief traffic officer were asked to meet with the rickshaw drivers’ union to inform them about the government’s decisions.
