A new and powerful monsoon spell is expected to hit southern Pakistan starting today, with heavy rains predicted to continue until August 29th.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide alert for heavy rainfall, starting today. According to the PMD, a new wave of strong monsoon winds will enter the country on August 25, bringing with it heavy rains. These winds, originating from Bengal, will primarily impact southern Pakistan.

From August 25 to 29, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Umerkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, Sangarh, and other areas of Sindh are expected to experience heavy rainfall, exceeding normal levels.

From August 25 to 28, rainfall is also expected in Murree, Punjab, Upper Punjab, Galiyat, Islamabad, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and other regions of southern Punjab.

Between August 26 and 29, heavy rains are anticipated in southern Pakistan, while Balochistan is expected to see rainfall in Quetta, Lasbela, Barkhan, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Ziarat, and other areas from August 26 to 30. Some areas may experience torrential rainfall. Low-lying areas in Sindh and Balochistan are at risk of flooding.

From August 26 to 28, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Hazara Division, Mardan, Peshawar, Hangu, and other regions are expected to see thunderstorms and rainfall.

The PMD warns that torrential rainfall could lead to flooding in various parts of Balochistan, with rivers and streams overflowing. Heavy rains also pose a risk to low-lying areas in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and central Punjab. Landslides are also a concern in Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, the PMD’s Early Warning Center reports a low-pressure system over West Bengal.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued an alert for further monsoon rains in Punjab starting on August 25. Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions are at risk of flooding. Rainfall is also expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Gujrat.

There is also a risk of flash floods in the Koh-e-Sulaiman and Kirthar ranges. The Rawal Dam spillways were opened this morning.

The PDMA has issued an alert for heavy rains in Karachi and Sindh from August 26 to 29.

Light rain in Karachi’s areas of Guru Mandar and M.A. Jinnah Road late last night brought a pleasant change in the weather.

Rainfall in Sangarh, Sindh, has caused flooding in low-lying areas and water accumulation on roads. Rain has also been reported in Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, and Hala.
