Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has cautioned against the perils of misinformation and fake news in the digital age, according to the military’s media wing.

He said this during a meeting with a delegation of 44 students from Harvard Business School (HBS) Trek-2024, representing nine different countries, at the General Headquarters on Thursday

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said that the session provided a platform to share perspectives on Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, its “unwavering efforts against terrorism, and its commitment to upholding democratic values.”

The army chief emphasised the significance of education, critical thinking, and innovation in addressing contemporary security challenges. He highlighted Pakistan’s “vast” potential and encouraged the attendants to form their opinions based on personal experiences.

COAS Munir urged the students to navigate this landscape with discernment.

The Harvard students expressed their gratitude to the army chief for facilitating a “constructive and enlightening” interaction.

The engagement follows COAS Munir’s earlier interaction with students from various universities at the GHQ on August 20, underscoring his commitment to “nurturing and inspiring the nation’s youth.”

On Wednesday, COAS Munir said that the state has a responsibility to protect its citizens from the harmful effects of social media.

While addressing the youth convention, he urged the youth to learn from the struggles of people in Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza. The army chief went on to add that those who had predicted Pakistan’s default were “silent.” He urged the youth to remain optimistic, reminding them that as Muslims, they are forbidden from despair.
