The Punjab government has announced plans to outsource the management of 5,800 government schools to private entities.

According to the provincial minister, this initiative aims to bring in much-needed expertise and resources to enhance student outcomes, teacher training, and infrastructure development across the province.

“We want to encourage innovation, creativity, and expertise from various sectors to transform our education system,” the minister stated. The selected partners will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the schools, including curriculum development, teacher training, student assessments, and infrastructure maintenance.

The government will provide funding and support to ensure the success of these public-private partnerships.

The minister emphasized that strict monitoring and evaluation mechanisms will be in place to maintain accountability and ensure the partners meet the required standards.

Many of the government schools slated for outsourcing previously faced severe teacher shortages, with some having no teaching staff at all. Additionally, these schools were often characterized by a lack of rigorous academic standards for students.

Rather than abandoning these underperforming schools, the government has opted to partner with private individuals, NGOs, and organizations to utilize the existing infrastructure and drive improvements in the education system.

“By outsourcing schools to private entities, we aim to tap into their specialized expertise and resources to enhance the quality of education,” the minister said. “These partners bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in areas such as curriculum development, teacher training, and education technology, which can help to modernize and improve the education system.”
