The federal government appointed on Wednesday Power Division Secretary Rashid Mahmood Langrial as the new Federal Board of Revenue chairman, a notification said.

“Mr Rashid Mahmood, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Secretary, Power Division, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, is transferred and posted as Chairman, Federal Board of Revenue, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further orders,” the notification read.

It is noteworthy that the previous FBR Chairman, Amjad Zubair Towana, had requested early retirement a few days ago, even though he was due to retire in February 2025. Amjad Zubair Tiwana had given a two-week notice to relinquish his charge.

Earlier this month, Tiwana wrote a letter to the federal government requesting to be replaced by a new chairman. He was appointed to the position by former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

Tiwana managed to retain his position during the caretaker government’s tenure, but reports say things changed when he allegedly assigned poor performance grades to his senior colleagues.
