The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has expressed its support for the protest by Jamaat-e-Islami against the independent power producers (IPPs).

“All political parties need to come together to get rid of this government,” PTI leader Asad Qaiser said at a press conference in Islamabad.

The JI protest against exorbitant bills and power agreements with the IPPs entered its third day on Sunday, with several supporters on the Murree Road.

The religiopoltical party’s sit-in entered its third day on Sunday, with several protesters on Murre Road in Rawalpindi. The JI and the government held the first round of talks after which the latter assured the former of forming a technical committee on the 10 demands.

Qaiser criticised the government’s “actions”, terming them “unconstitutional and illegal.” He announced that the party would hold a major meeting tomorrow to outline their future course of action.

Moreover, the PTI leadership announced nationwide protests on August 5, marking one year since the imprisonment of PTI’s founder.

The PTI has also demanded that the Supreme Court take suo motu action against the arrests of its assembly members. The party claimed that after the recent court rulings on specific seats, “pressure is being exerted to change the loyalty of 45 of their MNAs.”

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub alleged that the current path the government taking would only lead to the country’s destruction. “For God’s sake, save Pakistan from disaster. Fresh elections are the only solution to the country’s problems.”

He also expressed concerns about the disappearance of their party workers, alleging that they are not being treated well and that Parliament has “lost” its significance. He further stated that even the mother of Sheikh Akram has been booked in a case.
