Raoof Hassan remanded for two days as details of FIA case emerge

FIR carries confessional statement from a PTI activist as well

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesman Raoof Hassan was handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency on a two-day remand on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the FIR that led to his arrest has also emerged, revealing offences under PECA as well as confessional statements from PTI’s social media office holders.

A court in Islamabad also approved the remand for several male workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, while two female workers have been sent to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, PTI leader Raoof Hasan and other accused were presented before the court of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah. PTI lawyer Latif Khosa appeared in court on behalf of the party.

At the start of the hearing, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor requested a 30-day physical remand for Rauf Hasan, stating that devices related to social media accounts need to be recovered.

He argued that further investigation would be possible once the devices are found, and that the FIA can seek a 30-day physical remand in such cases.

Meanwhile, the FIA FIR under which Raoof Hassan was arrested has also been revealed.

The FIR also carries an accusation by Ahmad Waqas, a member of PTI’s social media team. 12 members of the PTI leadership and media cell are named in the case.

The case file states that the accused are daily causing harm to the country in collusion with internal and external forces. The accused are daily creating an anti-state narrative.

The FIR accuses Raoof Hassan of spearheading a special cell that carries out anti-state cmapaigns on social media both from within and outside the country. The aim of the campaign, Waqas told FIA, is to incite people of Pakistan against the army.

The accused include Waqas Ahmad, Raoof Hasan, Afaq Ahmad Alvi, Hamidullah, and Zeeshan Farooq. Along with them, the accused also include Syed Osama, Muhammad Rizwan, Muhammad Rafiq, and Syed Hamza.

The FIR states that the accused include female workers Farhat Khalid, Aqra Ilyas, and other unidentified individuals.
