Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Ameen Gandapur has decided to present the demands of the Bannu jirga (council of elders) to the Apex Committee.

The jirga meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House, presided over by Gandapur. The meeting was attended by the elders and members of the Bannu jirga, with around 60 individuals participating.

In addition to the jirga members, the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu, Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner also attended the meeting.

The members of the Bannu jirga formed to address the Bannu incident met with Gandapur and presented their demands to him.

The jirga president Nasir Khan Bangash stated that the Chief Minister has heard all of their demands and has assured that a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee will be convened within 48 hours to discuss the demands.

He further explained that the Chief Minister has said that 5 representatives from the jirga will also participate in the Apex Committee meeting, and the demands will be deliberated upon in the Apex Committee meeting.

Bangash mentioned that the sit-in protest in Bannu will continue, and on Friday, Gandapur will visit Bannu. During this visit, he will present the decision of the Apex Committee to the participants of the sit-in protest.

He also informed that once the decision of the KP Chief Minister is presented, the sit-in protest will be called off.

The spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister, Barrister Saif, stated that a meeting of the Bannu Peace Committee was held at the Chief Minister’s House, where Gandapur interacted with the Peace Committee members and discussed the situation in Bannu and the issue of terrorism.

After the unfortunate incident in Bannu, the Chief Minister thanked the Peace Committee members for their full cooperation with the administration, as the Peace Committee has assisted the administration in restoring peace and order in Bannu, which is a commendable effort.

It was decided that the Provincial Apex Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, where all matters related to terrorism will be discussed, and a policy will be formulated to restore peace and security in the province.

All members of the Peace Committee expressed confidence in the Chief Minister and invited him to visit Bannu, and the Chief Minister will visit Bannu on Friday, while the symbolic sit-in protest in Bannu will continue.

In a previous video statement, the Chief Minister had revealed that some armed individuals, who claim to be government officials and associate themselves with government agencies, were identified in the Apex Committee meeting, and there are serious concerns regarding the activities of these armed individuals among the public, government and police.
