PPP, PML-N agree to reach decisions regarding PTI ‘through consensus’
The PML-N and the PPP leaderships have agreed to reach all decisions regarding the PTI through consensus and to continue the dialogue, sources said on Friday.
They met at the President’s House. The discussion, which lasted for nearly an hour and a half, focused on the government’s decision to invoke Article 6 (high treason) of the Constitution against the former president, ex-prime minister, and former National Assembly deputy speaker, as well as the ban on the PTI.
The PPP indicated that it would place the matter before its Central Executive Committee (CEC). The PML-N’s legal team also briefed the PPP on the review appeal filed in the SC.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Ahad Cheema, Special Assistant to the PM on Law Irfan Qadir, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar attended the meeting from the PML-N side. The PPP was represented by Farooq H Naek, Nayyar Bukhari, and Senator Sherry Rehman.
Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan briefed the participants on the legal aspects of the case regarding the reserved seats, as well as the review appeal filed in the Supreme Court. The federal law minister and the AGP also informed the participants about the legal details of the government’s decision to ban the PTI.
The PPP’s legal team, expressing concern about the future implications of such decisions, emphasised that the PML-N should take the PPP into confidence before making any announcements.
