Pakistan Bar Council calls for special court to deal with political cases
Pakistan Bar Council has revealed that it had requested Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to appoint ad hoc judges in the Supreme Court. It has also demanded that the government should set up a sepcial court to hear political and constitutional cases.
A statement released today announced that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on the 19th, heeding the request of the Bar Councils. The statement praised the temporary appointment of retired judges to the Supreme Court, a practice permitted by the Constitution.
The statement further highlighted that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa expressed confidence during the Judicial Council meeting on the 19th that this measure will significantly expedite the resolution of pending cases. With these appointments, permanent benches will be established in the Supreme Court registries.
The statement concluded with the Pakistan Bar Council urging the federal government to amend the Constitution to establish a Constitutional Court in the country. This court would exclusively hear and adjudicate constitutional and political cases.
The statement further argued that this move by the federal government would free up valuable time of Supreme Court judges currently spent on political cases. This would allow them to focus on ordinary citizens’ cases, which have been delayed due to the backlog of political cases. This would result in faster judgments and ensure prompt justice for the common man, restoring their faith in the judiciary.

It is worth noting that Barrister Gohar, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has announced his intention to approach the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the appointment of ad hoc judges. He had previously termed the appointment of four ad hoc judges for a period of three years during the court’s vacation as “malicious.”
It is also important to remember that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission on July 19th to discuss the appointment of ad hoc judges in the Supreme Court.
