Ashura observed across Pakistan amid strict security, no mobile signals

Strict security measures were put in place

Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, was observed across Pakistan on Wednesday with religious fervour and solemnity, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions.

Large processions are being organised in major cities, with thousands of mourners participating in mourning ceremonies and paying tribute to the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his followers in the Battle of Karbala.

Security Measures and Restrictions:

To ensure the safety of the processions, mobile phone services were suspended in sensitive areas of Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and other cities. In Karachi, the main procession began from Nishtar Park and concluded at the Husainia Iranian in Kharadar. Pillion riding, the display of weapons, and the use of drones and helicopters were also prohibited in the city.

In Lahore, the main procession commenced from Nisar Haveli in Mochi Gate and ended at Karbala Gamay Shah. Mobile phone services were suspended in areas with processions and mourning gatherings across Punjab.

Similar processions were held in Islamabad, Peshawar, and other cities. In Islamabad, the main procession started from Imam Bargah Colonel Mubqal and culminated at Imam Bargah Qadeemi. In Quetta, the main procession began from Alamdar Road.

Muharram 9:

On Sunday, the ninth day of Muharram, processions and mourning gatherings were also held across the country. The main procession in Karachi, starting from Nishtar Park, concluded at Husainia Iranian in Kharadar. Strict security measures were in place, and mobile phone services were suspended along the procession route.

Speeches and Mourning:

In Karachi, prominent religious scholar Allama Shahanshah Hussain Naqvi addressed the main gathering at Nishtar Park, highlighting the sacrifices and teachings of the martyrs of Karbala.

In Lahore, the main procession concluded at Pandu Street, with mourners reciting elegies and mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. Similar processions were held in Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, and other cities.

Mobile Phone and Internet Restrictions:

Mobile phone and internet services were suspended in Jacobabad and Sukkur on Sunday, while services in Peshawar and Quetta were partially suspended and restored later that night.
