Karachi traffic plan for Muharram 8, 9, and 10

The Karachi police have issued the traffic plan for Muharram 8 (Monday), 9 (Tuesday), and 10 (Wednesday) to facilitate the smooth movement of the procession as the government tightens security to ensure law and order during the three days.

The central procession of Muharram would be taken out from Nishtar Park that would pass through the designated routes and conclude at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah

According to the plan, small or large vehicles would not be allowed to enter the procession route from Gurumandir Chowk. All traffic would be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazaar.

“Entry of all vehicles will be prohibited on MA Jinnah Road,” it said and added that only vehicles with windscreen stickers would be allowed to join the procession.

Vehicles with stickers can enter the procession route from Society Light Signal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen. For security reasons, MA Jinnah Road from Gurumandir to Tower would remain closed.

Earlier this week, the interior ministry on Monday approved the nationwide deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers for security purposes during the holy month.

Residents from Nazimabad can reach their destination via Lasbela Chowk, Nishtar Road, and Garden while commuters from Liaquatabad would be diverted from Teen Hatti towards Central Jail via Lasbela Chowk

Commuters traveling from Hassan Square towards Peoples Chowrangi can take Kashmir Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and reach Nishtar Road.

Those heading from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Numaish can take the Society Light Signal at the Kashmir Road.

Travellers from Jamshed Road to MA Jinnah Road can reach their destination from Gurumandir to Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.

Moreover, people intending to travel from Karachi Zoo, Garden to MA Jinnah Road can take the route from Anklesaria Hospital to Gul Plaza then their left towards Coast Guard, and then the Holy Family Hospital.

Attendants from Nazimabad can join the procession via Lasbela, right towards Garden Jamaat Khana, Soldier Bazaar No 3 signal, and then proceed to Numaish. Those coming from Liaquatabad would take Teen Hatti and Jahangir Road route to reach Numaish.

Participants from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal would take the University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, from Society Light Signal to join the procession.

Cars participating in the distribution of Sabeel or Niaz would only join the procession from Tower Memon Masjid, according to the administration.

No one would be allowed to park their vehicles on the procession route. Heavy traffic from Super Highway, going towards MA Jinnah Road from Gulberg, would be diverted at Liaquatabad No 10 towards Nazimabad Chowrangi No2.

Heavy traffic can go through Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Mauripur. The same route would also be used to return the traffic.

Traffic coming from the National Highway would be allowed to come through Shahrah-e-Faisal, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Sulaiman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No 10, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Shahrah-e-Faisal to Mauripur. The same route would also be used to return the traffic.
