PM Shehbaz extends olive branch to opposition

Adds that PTi should tell him if Imran is facing difficulties in jail

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again extended an olive branch to the opposition, urging them to engage in dialogue to resolve the country’s political and economic challenges.

Addressing the National Assembly, Sharif reiterated his call for a “Charter of Economy,” emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation to steer Pakistan towards a brighter future.

“I urge them [Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Imran Khan] to come together, sit down, and discuss the path forward for the prosperity of our nation,” Sharif said. “There is no other option if we want to see Pakistan progress.”

He expressed his willingness to address concerns regarding the legal proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, stating, “If there are any difficulties or hardships faced by their leader [Imran Khan] in prison, let’s sit down and find a solution.”

Sharif lamented the current political climate, highlighting the animosity that has permeated the political landscape.

“The bitterness we see today is a result of the actions of those who have driven us to this point,” he said. “After 76 years, we are hesitant to even shake hands with each other.”

He reminisced about a time when political discourse, while often critical, was marked by empathy and understanding. “In the past, there was criticism and opposition, but politicians stood by each other in times of need,” Sharif said.

The Prime Minister’s call for dialogue comes amidst a period of heightened political tension, with the opposition demanding the release of Imran Khan and accusing the government of political persecution.
