IHC orders to remove Zartaj Gul’s name from ECL
The Islamabad High Court has ordered the removal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zartaj Gul’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri remarked that the court is currently removing her name, and will also summon those who authorized placing her name on the ECL in the future.
The Supreme Court has also ordered the removal of Ztaj Gul’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) and has directed the Assistant Attorney General to submit a report within one week.
According to the report presented, two FIRs (First Information Reports) were filed containing the name of Zartaj Gul.
During the proceedings, Justice Jahangiri remarked that the authorities do not list the names of terrorists, but rather members of the Assembly are appearing in the court. He stated that he would summon the Inspector General (IG) and inquire about this matter.
The judge from the Islamabad High Court observed that whenever a political leader organizes a rally, their name is immediately added to the Exit Control List (ECL). The judge further stated that he has not received any cases related to gangs or terrorists, and questioned who is responsible for recommending the inclusion of names in the ECL, as even they seem to be afraid.
Justice Jahangiri inquired about the cases pending against Zartaj Gul, to which the lawyer responded that responses have been filed in case numbers 567 and 340, and an urgent miscellaneous application has been filed today.
The judge ordered the removal of Gul’s name from ECL and to submit the report within a week.
Court Appearances on 9 May Cases
The cases related to the May 9th incident. The appearances of Sheikh Rashd, Zartaj Gul, and others, were recorded in the anti-terrorism court. The next hearing is scheduled for July 15.
The Anti-Terrorism Court Judge, Malik Ejaz Asif, held the hearing of the May 9th cases at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The leaders of PTI party, including Sheikh Rashid, Zartaj Gul, Rashid Hafiz, and Sheikh Rashid Shafique, appeared in court along with their team.
The attendance of the accused persons who came to the Adiala Jail was recorded, after which the court adjourned the hearing of the May 9 cases until July 15 without any proceedings.
The indictment of the PTI chief and other accused was supposed to take place today, but it could not happen.
The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, along with other PTI leaders and workers, were also summoned to the Adiala Jail today.
On this occasion, the security around the Adiala Jail was tightened, and additional police personnel were deployed. Checkpoints were also set up near the Adiala Jail for checking.
