Sindh gears up for premium number plate auction on June 29
For the “first time in Pakistan’s history,” Sindh would hold the auction for the premium number plate on June 29 (Saturday).
“There will be a basic price of number plates,” Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said at a press conference in Karachi on Sunday.
They would include three categories: platinum, gold, and silver. “It will be an open auction. If I desire to get a good number plate, I cannot as it is mandatory to be part of that open auction.”
He clarified that the provincial government was not bearing the expenses for the mega-auction ceremony. “We have planned for the vehicle manufacturing companies to sponsor the event.”
He was hopeful that the government would generate“good revenue“ for the government.
Last month, the provincial cabinet approved the proposal to introduce premium number plates for vehicles. The Excise and Taxation Department had offered three types of number plates: commercial, non-commercial, and motorcycle.
The Platinum number plates have a maximum of three characters and a base price of Rs2 million. Gold number plates have a maximum of five characters and a base price of Rs1 million, while Silver number plates have a maximum of seven characters and a base price of Rs50,000.
