Measles cases surge in Punjab

Over 12,000 cases have been reported this year so far

The Punjab Department of Primary and Secondary Healthcare has reported a surge in suspected measles cases across the province.

According to the department’s statistics, 263 suspected measles cases were reported in children over the past 24 hours. While no deaths related to measles have been reported in the last day, the province has recorded a total of 12,220 measles cases so far this year.

The highest number of cases were reported in Rawalpindi (11), Lahore (40), and Multan (17) in the last 24 hours.

Other districts with significant case counts include Sheikhupura (16), Bahawalpur (12), Faisalabad (30), Jhang (23), Khanewal (13), and Vehari (13).

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir has assured the public that a vigorous vaccination campaign is underway across Punjab. He also emphasized the importance of digital monitoring and vowed to take strict action against any negligence by officials or staff.

The minister further announced that he will be conducting visits to various districts to assess the situation and ensure effective measures are being taken to combat measles and other potential outbreaks.
