PPP leader Khursheed Shah has warned that removing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from power would be “dangerous” and would lead the PML-N towards blackmailing.

“I think and I am clear that Shehbaz Sharif should remain the prime minister and he should not be changed,” he said in an interview with Spotlight with Munizae Janahgir on Tuesday.

He was asked about the divisions in political parties. According to Shah, leaders of the country should not be changed “daily”.

The PPP leader was of the view that Nawaz Sharif should have become the PML-N chairman instead of the party president.

“It seems there is no confidence in Shehbaz. It won’t be a good tradition,” he said and added that there should not be fissures within the party.

When asked whether or not the PPP join the federal cabinet, he said that there was no such thing under consideration. He added that the party’s Central Executive Committee would make the final decision.

Shah added that the party would not take ministries and assist the government in handling the matters. It would be a unanimous decision, he added.

He agreed with a question that the PPP would play a role in the parliamentary committees to bring the government on a “straight line.” Shah expressed hope that committees would be formed before the budget.

When asked, Shah added that the party would give a chance to young party members to become part of Parliament.

He added that the PPP would not ban media and support the right to self-expression. The PPP leader said that discussions were under way for the Sindh governor appointment.

He called for discussing “real issues” of the country, like the population. “You cannot control the economy amid such a big population.”

Amid reports of a clash between the establishment and the judiciary, he said that both institutions should “walk carefully”.

He added that he had not seen property tycoon Malik Riaz’s recent social media post where he vowed to not bow down.

When asked about the grand dialogue, Shah said: “CJP and COAS cannot be in grand dialogue but they can support it off the record.”
