The Pune police in India have written to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), seeking permission to investigate the Porsh crash accident in which a teenager is accused of running over two people, Times of India reported.

The 17-year-old boy allegedly drank alcohol at a restaurant before driving the car at a high speed and rammed down a bike on May 19.

The deceased were identified as IT professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.

The teenager was driving the luxury vehicle under the influence of alcohol when the tragic accident occurred in the city’s Kalyani Nagar, according to the police. The teenager is held in an observation home until June 5.

“We have written to the JJ Board and sought their permission to allow us to probe the minor,” Pune Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade said.

The JJB had granted bail to the teenager, who is said to be the son of a local builder, and instructed him to write a 300-word essay on road safety.

However, following intense public criticism, the police approached the JJB again, resulting in a modification of the order and the minor being sent to an observation home.

The authorities have also taken the minor’s father and grandfather into custody for allegedly confining the family driver, “enticing him with money and gifts, and threatening him to take responsibility for the crash.”

Two doctors and a staff member from the Sassoon General Hospital have also been arrested for allegedly tampering with the teenager’s blood samples to conceal the fact that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
