AGP assures IHC of reuniting allegedly missing persons with their families
Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan has assured the Islamabad High Court of reuniting allegedly missing or disappeared persons with their families.
“The Attorney General contends that the detailed answer would be submitted before the next date of hearing and he also undertakes on behalf of the State as well as the law enforcement agencies that every person who has allegedly been disappeared or is missing will be reunited with his family,” the high court order said.
The four-page order was issued in relation to a case about the implementation of the recommendations of the commission on Baloch missing persons.
The AGP had also pointed out that the court had also constituted three members committee comprising IB DG, ISI DG and MI DG but there were certain administrative difficulties in coordination as highlighted by the IB DG “who has made request through attorney general that joint director general may be appointed as convener and request has been made that permission may be granted to co-opt the members of other law enforcement agencies including CTD and FIA in the said working for true identification and recovery of the alleged persons who were victim of enforced disappearances.”
AGP Awan also contended that he has taken certain measures to settle the longstanding issue pertaining to the involvement of officials for achieving the mandate highlighted in the commission’s report with the highest offices.
He assured the court that the cabinet’s recommendation on the ministerial committee on enforced disappearance would be shared with the court, which would be considered as way forward in future.
“In view of these undertakings, the matter is adjourned to 14.06.2024 for further proceedings.”
