The confrontation between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has reignited after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) conducted an operation against alleged encroachments at the PTI central office. In response, PTI leaders have set up a tent outside their party secretariat, which has been partly demolished and sealed.

Speaking to reporters from the camp, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that a petition has been filed in the High Court regarding the matter, while Omar Ayub expressed determination to fight until the end.

Senior PTI leader Shibli Faraz stated defiantly, “Demolish the office, snatch the symbol, but you cannot intimidate us.”

On the other hand, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said that the operation against the alleged encroachments was a decision of the CDA, not the government.

The issue began with the CDA operation in Islamabad, during which the alleged encroachments outside the PTI secretariat were demolished. PTI leader Aamer Mughal and others resisted, leading to their arrest.

The government minsters say the PTI was first served a notice by the CDA in 2020 over illegal construction and a final notice was sent earlier this month. In 2020, the PTI was in power.

The party has been accused to adding to floor to the building and violating other building codes.

The CDA’s action has not deterred the PTI leadership, who have set up a tent outside their office and are holding a core committee meeting there.
