The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall during June 2024 is expected to be near-normal levels in most parts of Pakistan.

In its outlook for June, the Met Office said that the maximum daytime temperatures were predicted to remain higher than usual across most of the country, with the largest positive departures from normal occurring in the northern regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The minimum overnight temperatures are also expected to be warmer than normal nationwide, with the maximum positive departures seen in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and southwestern Balochistan.

The above-normal temperatures forecast for northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir regions may lead to accelerated snowmelt, resulting in increased river flows.

This could have a positive impact, providing sufficient water availability for irrigation and power generation.

However, the prevailing atmospheric conditions also raise the risk of dust storms, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in the affected regions. These extreme weather events pose threats to crops, buildings, and infrastructure.
