The European Commission is planning to increase Schengen visa fees from June 11, 2024.

The charges to be considered for this visa will be £90 for adults and £45 for children.

The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced changes to visa fees. For children between 6 and 12 years old, the visa fee will increase from €40 to €45.

For countries that have not cooperated with the European Union in the readmission of their citizens, who are irregularly staying in EU member states, the visa fees could be raised to €135 or €180.

The increase in visa fees is the result of the most recent review of EU visa fees, which took place in December 2023. This review of visa fees is foreseen to occur every three years under the Schengen Visa Code.

The EU has justified the increase in visa fees by citing the need to account for inflation rates and the salaries of civil servants in the member states.

According to the International Air Transport Association report, The increase in EU visa fees could have a negative impact on travel affordability and have rippling effects on the local economies of EU member states as raising visa fees may discourage travellers, leading to reduced travel volumes.
