Section 144, prohibiting gatherings, has been imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Attock, Pakistan, in anticipation of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest planned for Islamabad on October 4.

A notification confirming the imposition of Section 144, effective from October 4 to 6, has been issued. Private schools in Islamabad will also remain closed on October 4.

Sources indicate that access to Rawalpindi will be restricted, with the Metro Bus service suspended and Motorways M1 and M2 completely closed. Access from Taxila, Chakrial, Rawat, and the Airport will also be blocked.

Law enforcement agencies have reportedly recommended a temporary shutdown of mobile networks to the Home Department.

Over 4,000 Rawalpindi police officers and personnel will be deployed, along with separate anti-riot squads. Police have been supplied with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Sources say that any protestors will be immediately arrested, and Rawalpindi authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

Due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s call for protests and the potential for road closures, the Private Schools Association has announced the closure of schools on Friday.

In a statement, General Secretary of the Private Schools Association, Wahid Khan, said that the safety of children is their top priority. He stated that while they remained in contact with the Deputy Commissioner earlier in the day, they received no response in the afternoon. He expressed a desire to avoid causing hardship to students, noting that students already faced difficulties today due to roadblocks.
