Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced the implementation of an educational emergency throughout the country, stating that no nation can progress without education.

Addressing a national conference on education in Islamabad, he emphasized the need for reforms in the education sector and expressed concern over the high number of 26 million children in Pakistan who are out of school.

The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of education for the nation, citing the words of the founding father who had stated that education is a matter of life and death for a nation. He stressed the importance of overcoming challenges in Pakistan and becoming a nuclear power.

The PM said that Pakistan has successfully tackled challenges and emerged as an atomic power. Countering terrorism remains a major challenge for the country, with 80,000 lives sacrificed in the war against terrorism. The Pakistani nation possesses the capability to overcome challenges.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan has encountered several opportunities to steer its path towards progress.

He reiterated that the development of any nation is rooted in education. As the former Chief Minister, he had ensured educational opportunities and job prospects for children. He further mentioned the efforts made during his tenure from 2008 to 2018 in Punjab, where substantial progress was made in the field of education.

Shehbaz said that child labor was abolished, and financial support was provided to parents to facilitate their children’s education, ten thousand schools were upgraded, and the educational standards were improved.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts with the British government, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif mentioned the establishment of vocational institutes in Punjab. He also said that the Education Endowment Fund was established in 2008, which was the largest education fund in the region.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif clarified that his statement was not merely for scoring political points. He affirmed his commitment to enroll the mandatory 26 million children in schools. He declared an educational emergency in Pakistan and expressed his intention to meet with all provincial ministers. He emphasized that education cannot be neglected as it is vital for the progress of industries and the overall development of the country.
