Incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan has allowed the PTI leadership to hold talks with the establishment and political parties, party leader Shibli Faraz said on Saturday.

“Terms of reference will be decided before talks in light of Imran Khan’s directions,” he said at a press conference in Lahore. “Different leaders will talk to the establishment and political parties under these TORs.”

On Friday, PTI leader Shehryar Afridi said that his party only wanted to have talks with the army chief and the spymaster amid calls for dialogue with the government.

After his ouster from power, Khan made similar demands and sought talks with the establishment.

“The political instability has gripped the country,” Faraz said. “The parameters of the negotiations will be determined first, the manner in which the negotiations will take place and in what environment should be determined first, only then will the way for the negotiations be paved with those who are the stakeholders.”

He reiterated that talks should be held, but called for having them with the stakeholders.

According to Faraz, the incumbent government’s powers were supposed to be ascertained in order to have any groundwork for talks.
