Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s emotional outburst with on-field umpire has gone viral on social media platforms during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) match.

Kohli was dismissed for 18 runs off 7 balls, strongly believed that the delivery that got him out was a waist-high no-ball.

He engaged in a heated discussion with the on-field umpire to express his disagreement.

However, a video clip that surfaced after the match showed Kohli in another moment of fury.

The dismissal occurred when Kohli was caught and bowled by Harshit Rana in the third over of the RCB’s chase.

Kohli argued that the full-toss delivery was above waist height and should have been deemed a no-ball.

Although the ball was indeed waist-high when Kohli made contact, he was positioned outside the crease.

To resolve the controversy, the new Hawk-Eye ball-tracking technology was utilized. TV umpire Michael Gough examined the delivery and determined that it would have passed Kohli at a height of 0.92 meters if he had faced it within the crease.

Since Kohli’s waist height is 1.04 meters, the ball would have passed below his waist had he stood inside the crease, making it a legal delivery.

Kohli remained unconvinced and expressed his frustration while walking back to the pavilion after a spirited discussion with the umpire.

A subsequent video clip circulating on social media captured Kohli hitting his bat on the ground and fiercely smashing a nearby dustbin with his gloves.

To address controversies surrounding waist-high no-balls, Indian Premier League (IPL) introduced a new technology in the 2024 season.

This technology measures the height of the ball as it passes the batter at the crease and compares it with pre-recorded toe-to-waist height figures.

If the delivery’s height exceeds the batter’s waist height inside the crease, it is considered a no-ball; otherwise, it is deemed a legal delivery.

Virat Kohli represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru at IPL. He ranks third in ODI and regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
