PCB sets up medical board to analyse handling of Ihsanullah’s injury

The board will have three doctors and will submit a report

Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to constitute an independent medical board to analyse if fast bowler Ihsanullah’s medical case was handled properly by the PCB medical support team.

The board was announced by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday.

The experts on the board will include, Dr. Javed Akram, Dr. Rana Dilawaiz, and Dr Mumraiz Naqshband.

The PCB’s handling of fast bowlers’ medical issues is once again being scrutinized following the revelation that Pakistan and Multan Sultans fast bowler Ihsanullah had initially been misdiagnosed with an elbow injury. This misdiagnosis has led to a routine injury becoming significantly more serious.

Ihsanullah’s last appearance for Pakistan was during his ODI debut in April 2023. He was initially sidelined due to an elbow injury, which was not fully understood by the PCB medical department, headed by Dr. Sohail Saleem. Since then, he has not been able to participate in any competitive matches.

Dr Saleem had previously left the PCB after the unsuccessful attempt to hold a PSL season in a Covid-19 bubble in 2021. However, he was later reappointed to the cricket board under Najam Sethi’s chairmanship in early 2023. Dr Saleem strongly denies any mismanagement on the part of the PCB in their treatment of Ihsanullah.
