The Princess Anne holds several significant positions within the Royal Navy, including being the Royal Sponsor of the Devonport-based assault ship HMS Albion, Commodore-in-Chief of Portsmouth Naval Base, and Chief Commandant of Women in the Royal Navy. These longstanding associations with the Senior Service reflect her unwavering support for the armed forces.
As the Ship’s Sponsor, Her Royal Highness will have the honor of being the Guest of Honour at key moments in HMS Venturer’s journey, such as the naming and commissioning ceremonies. The state-of-the-art assembly facility, operated by defense firm Babcock, is where all five ships in the Type 31 Inspiration class are being constructed.
Once completed, HMS Venturer, along with its four sister ships, will undertake a wide range of responsibilities around the globe. These duties will include independent maritime security patrols, escorting Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier strike groups, and collaborating closely with the United Kingdom’s partners and allies.
To conclude the visit, Her Royal Highness had the privilege of presenting two Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to deserving members of HMS Venturer’s ship’s company. Among the recipients was Leading Hand Adam Duncan, the ship’s newest and most junior member, who was recognized for his exceptional service.
