Earth experiencing ‘severe’ geomagnetic storm
Earth is currently facing a geomagnetic solar storm, categorised at a severe G4 rating, which could lead to effects on technology across the globe.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Centre, a severe category storm poses a major distrubance in earth’s magnetic field.
However, the Centre added that the public should not anticipate any adverse impacts but should ’stay properly informed.
The Centre also listed out potential effects of the storm which can include possible increased and more frequent voltage control problems. However, the centre added that these problems will be mitigable easily.
GPS degradations could also last longer during the duration of the storm.
However, the storm is predicted to fall to G2 (moderate) and could rise again to G3 (strong) on March 25.
