An attack by wolves on a farm in Multan killed atleast 15 cattle and injured dozens more on Sunday, according to locals.

The attack took place in Basti Mehram in Shujabad area of Multan.

The farm’s owner said that the wolves had attacked the the cattle in the dead of night and this was not the first such instance of predators killing his animals.

He also demanded that the Forest Department should provide compensation for the attacks.

According to wolf.org, wolves in Pakistan numbered less than 200 in 2003 and little is known about them. A 2017 research noted that the wolves have been confined to ‘remote, barren, mountainous regions and extensive deserts’.

However, attacks by wolves have been reported in areas of Punjab from time to time.

A news report in August 2023 said that multiple wolf atacks on farm animals had taken place in Bhakkar for over a month. It added that the authorities had been unable to do anything in the regard and locals had resorted to hunting the wolves themselves.

In January 2023, another report said that wolves had wiped out 60 sheep in a single attack in Kasur.
