Punjab launches online system for prison reforms, inmate welfare
The Punjab Home Department has launched an online system for prison reforms and the welfare of inmates that tracks sentence reductions and remaining sentences.
Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal inaugurated the modern system, which enables inmates’ families to receive information about release dates via SMS.
In response messages, families will find details of the last two pardons and upcoming release dates, all accessible for a standard charge of Rs5.
Under prison regulations, inmates can receive sentence reductions or pardons for various reasons, including education, acquiring technical skills, and good behavior.
Moreover, any pardons must be immediately updated in the inmate’s record.
Mengal emphasized that this new system will eliminate the difficulties faced by inmates and their families in obtaining records of sentence reductions.
Furthermore, the Home Secretary instructed the Directorate of Monitoring to conduct surprise inspections of prisons, warning that strict action will be taken against any violations of regulations.
However, for information concerning inmates, messages can be sent to 8070.
